Training overview:

Gradient Institute ran this free workshop on 13 May 2025, to teach Australian not-for-profits and social enterprises how to use large language models (LLMs) responsibly and effectively to achieve their social objectives.

As these powerful AI tools become increasingly capable, they also bring to light new and unique risks. This workshop taught how to build the skills and awareness to use different LLM tools confidently, while aligning use with ethical and responsible practices.

Through live demonstrations, participants learnt:

  • A high-level overview of how LLMs work
  • Appropriate circumstances for LLMs — when to use & when not to use
  • Comparisons between commercial LLM tools and their capabilities
  • Risks that are unique to LLMs and how to minimise them
  • Tools to craft effective prompts, and how you can align them to your NFP mission

Gradient Institute was able to provide this training free-of-charge through the support of a grant from Google.org, Google’s charitable arm.
